Office Hours

My office hours during regular instructional weeks (ie, not finals, breaks or holidays) are:

  Tuesday 12:15-1:45pm (drop-in to 5012 Riverside Hall)
  Thursday 2:00-3:30pm (online, by appointment)

These office hours are for both my classes and for people who need to talk to me as associate chair of the department.

Associate Chair

I am filling in as associate chair of the department during Spring 2026 while Dr Baynes is on sabbatical. My main role is approving submitted forms, but I may be able to help with departmental issues when your faculty advisor is unable. You may come to me for advising when front-line advisors are unable to answer your questions. See below for advising resources.

Advising

Pre-major and lower-division advising is handled by College provided advisors.

General Education advising is handled by University provided advisors, but the College provided advisors may be able to help too.

If you're a full major and would like advising about the Computer Science major, you should consult the list of faculty advisors and visit one of them. Before you do, you should do some of your own research and preparation first. Please do the following.

  1. Study the the department's student resources page and catalog entry. On the resources page the Roadmaps section has sample plans and an FAQ about catalog rights, and at the end of the page there's a "Computer Science Advising" section. Many student questions can be answered here.

  2. For advising about course selection or for any mandatory advising you should fill out two forms neatly and as best you can. Print and bring them to your advisor's in-person office hours or send them via email if meeting online.

    • Fill the BS Advising Form with only courses you've completed. Do not include courses in progress or planned. Link: BS Advising Form.

    • Write down the courses you are currently taking plus your best guess at courses you would like to take for at least the next two semesters. If graduation is not too far away, try to plan all the way to graduation. Link: BS Course Planning Form.
